01967

The description for 01967 says "this includes any repeat subarachnoid needle placement and drug injection and/or any necessary replacement of an epidural catheter during labor."

My anesthesiologist placed a labor epidural and was with the patient for 75 minutes. He returned to the patient two hours later and had to remove the epidural and replaced it with another epidural and spent another 60 minutes with the patient.

QUESTION: When the description for 01967 above says that it "includes any necessary replacement" does that mean that the same code 01967 should be used for both initial placement of epidural AND replacement - meaning I can bill 01967 twice? or does it mean that 01967 can only be billed once even if epidural is replaced?

If indeed I CANNOT bill 01967 twice, can I bill for discontinuous time?

THANK YOU TO ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER THIS. I'm at a loss!
