We have had a PM&R doctor join our orthopedic surgery practice. One question (of many) we have is: if one of our patients is referred to him for something like an EMG only, then referred back to him for treatment, would the patient be considered New to him as a different sub-specialist, or an established patient because he already did an EMG on this patient?

    An EMG is a face to face service and if that's all he's doing you can't charge an office visit because you have no medical necessity and when they come back to be treated they are an established patient because of the EMG.
